Aston Villa Season Preview

Stephen Ireland
with Stuart Young from Avillafan.com

Pre-season form
At the time of writing we are still undefeated and we do look a lot better under Lambert than we ever did under either Houllier and McLeish but we understand that progress will take time and that's what Lambert will get.

What to look forward to from your club this season
I think most fans would accept a top half finish, maybe a cup run andsome good football.

What to worry about
It's easy to blame the previous two managers but some of the players need to hold there hands up and prove they are worthy of playing for our great club. I worry some won't make it and it might mean some fan favourites being shown the door.

Where are you going to finish?
As I said before a top ten finish would be great. Realistically no lower than 12th.

Best/most outrageous transfer rumour
There's some talk of James Milner coming back - a player every fan would welcome back with open arms. His wage demands may prevent this though.

Manager right man for the job?
Yes without a doubt - Villa always work well under a motivator - aka a track suit man.

Player to look out for?
El Ahmadi looks decent in pre-season although I believe Stephen Ireland (above) might come good this year.

Dead wood you would get rid of?
The last of the O'Neill overplayed stars. The likes of Richard Dunne and Stephen Warnock.

Game of the season?
It would be easy to say the only derby of the season in WBA but I always enjoy playing Everton. Two similar size clubs with great traditions.

Best away day?
Used to be Blackburn, so probably so probably either Everton or Liverpool even though they probably have the worst grounds in the League.

Favourite chant?
'We are the famous, the famous Holte End'

How good are your pies?
Wouldn't know personally as I am not a massive pie eater although a few rave about the Balti pie!

Anything else?
Purchased my West Ham ticket today for the opening game of the season at Upton Park so.... Are we there yet?
