Batman: Arkham Asylum
We have played this. And it is good. Very good, in fact. Dark, adult, sturdily-put-together and looking sweet as, Batman: Arkham Asylum is the grown up vigilante game we've been crying out for, for yonks. And as far away from the fun but twee Lego games as anyone could possibly wish for.
Trouble's a-brewing at Gotham's own dark funny farm, when Batters inadvertently starts a mass break-out by delivering the scheming Joker to the gothic madhouse. Cue an inspired selection of eye-rolling mentalists on the loose, who Batman has to take down, boss-by-boss. Mostly with bone-crunchingly solid hand-to-hand combat. And the odd bit of steath. And gadgets. And grumpiness.
So peruse this excellent vid, and dial up the excitement-o-meter at least two notches. There are slightly too many men in glasses talking when we wanted a bit more limb-breaking and screams. But if this game hadn't yet blipped your radar, we'll be expecting to hear a solid "ping" in about two minutes. It's out on PS3 and Xbox 360 this autumn. Hopefully publisher Eidos won't bury it in the predictable unseemly Christmas scrum.
