GEOGRAPHIC TECHNICIAN - ROYAL ENGINEERS

Geographic Technicians are responsible for providing geographic advice and information to the brigade. They carry out terrain analysis to map out training exercises, highlighting specific routes and outlining boundaries. Geographic Technicians do this both in the UK and abroad. You are likely to find yourself in a wide variety of environments using cutting-edge IT equipment and geographic information systems.

Your specialist training will teach you how to carry out analysis of the battlefield providing vital support on operations.

The Army will work with you to identify and develop your skills and turn them into recognised civilian qualifications. Your IT expertise in particular will be valuable for civilian employment, as well as the management and leadership skills you will have developed not to mention gaining a Category C+E driving licence.

“I provide geographic advice to support units. At the moment we are working in Kenya, East Africa, where I will advise on the best routes for transport and soldiers to take, identifying the best terrain and producing maps using cutting edge geographic IT and information systems.”
