Issue 42: Gadgets
With a capacity of up to 15,000 songs or 150 hours of video, Apple's new iPod is being shipped to Britain this week and it makes the old one look like something built by the Russians in the '70s.
Priced at just under £300, the 60GB is three times more powerful than the current iPod, and yet somehow 12% thinner. But the most amazing new feature is the 2.5 colour screen, which plays music videos, a picture gallery and, for a couple of quid, last night's TV show, available to buy on-line. The camera is the same quality as a top-of-the-range television, so there's none of that videophone effect that makes it look like you're talking to a friend in Afghanistan. Apple has also launched a 30GB version to go with it it can pack up 7,500 songs and is 31% thinner than the old iPod, all for £219.
The new video iPod comes just weeks after the nano was introduced that sold one million in just 20 days, but already it's last month's news. And it makes us wonder what are those boffins at Apple up to for their next trick?
