Born in 1984 and named Katheryn Hudson, her Christian pastor parents raised her on gospel music. When she moved into pop Katy realised her name was too close to Hollywood actress Kate Hudson, so changed her stage name to Perry, her mother's maiden name.
You can't have missed her wacky clothing, remember the West Ham underwear or the merry-go-round dress? But the risky little bits of clothing have cost her a good few nipple slips in her time.
