France's Just Fontaine scored a record 13 goals in the 1958 World Cup, the most goals ever scored by one player in a single World Cup finals.

France have had a player sent off in both World Cup finals that they have played in. Marcel Desailly was sent off in the 1998 final against Brazil and Zinedine Zidane received a red card for his infamous 2006 headbutt in the final against Italy.

Frenchman Jules Rimet was FIFA President from 1921 to 1954 and was the driving force behind the creation of the World Cup.
